David is horrified when he sees the bride’s original dress choice calling it the “ condom dress.” He parallels unconventional female sexuality with prostitution when he says, “you don’t wear this at a wedding, you don’t wear this walking down the street unless you might be turning a trick in the middle of the night.” David vilifies Sofia’s sexual nature by replacing her dress with this prom-inspired one, and constantly tries to implement a “G-rated” version of burlesque. The main concern throughout the episode is not offending the guests of the wedding and downplaying the bride’s sexuality. In season five, episode one the burlesque-bride wants an extravagant burlesque themed wedding while the groom wants to please his conservative family. While he takes into consideration the bride and groom’s ideas more often than not he pushes the couple into traditional and conventional wedding decorations, dresses, and styles that reinforce hegemonic ideology.
